Visit the Korean War South and North conference room on this full-day tour of the Joint Security Area, JSA, in the village of Panmunjom. Pass by the Unification Bridge, The Bridge of No Return. See the Memorial Altar, the Freedom Bridge, and the Unification Bell. Enjoy a traditional Korean lunch of bulgogi.
The Joint Security Area (JSA) is located in the village of Panmunjom. Unlike any other place, Panmunjom shows the tension between the two nations, North and South Korea, and also makes one realize the importance of the liberty and the peace. Panmunjom is the venue for negotiations between North and South Korean government officials and United Command (UNC) and North Korean military officers. Panmunjom is also a place where you can still feel the tension of the Cold War as it attests to the contentious history of Korea during the last half century.
For your tour, meet your guide at the Koreana Hotel at around 9am. You will take the Freedom Highway to the Unification Observatory and visit the North Korean Life Experience Hall exhibition room and screening room.
Then you will visit the Imjingak Tourist Resort (the Memorial Altar, the Freedom Bridge, and the Unification Bell) before heading to lunch. For lunch, you will have a traditional Korean fare of Bulgogi.
After lunch, you will head to the Unification Bridge, where your passports will be checked. Then, you will visit the United Nation Command Security Battalion Camp Bonifas. The U.N. Command forces have jurisdiction over the Panmunjom that is the only place controlled by them in South Korea. The forces stay in the Camp Bonifas named in honor of the late captain Auther G. Bonifas who was killed in the axe murder incident in Panmunjom area in 1976.
After visiting Camp Bonifas, there will be a very important briefing before taking the military bus to the Joint Security Area (JSA). Thereafter, you will visit the Freedom House which was constructed on July 9, 1998, and provides facilities for South-North Korean contacts, meetings and exchanges, and houses the Liaison Office with North and South Korea. When the original Freedom House was built in 1965, Red Cross representatives from the South used it to make contacts with their North Korean counterparts.
Then, you will visit the Military Armistice Commission Building and the Bridge of no return before returning back at the MyeongDong Lotte Hotel in Seoul.
