Discover Korea’s old palace architecture during this 3-hour walking tour of Seoul, which also includes stops at the National Folk Museum of Korea and Bukchon Hanok Village. A knowledgeable local guide will introduce you to traditional and contemporary principles of Korean design through architecture, culture and art. Learn how these aesthetics are used in both Korean palace architecture and common houses as well.

Meet your guide in front of the old Seoul City Hall building, which today is being used as a library. After a 10 minute walk, arrive at Gwanghwamun Gate, the main gate of Gyeongbokgung Palace. Here, your expert guide will teach you the history of the Joseon Dynasty and about the traditional architecture used at Gyeongbokgung Palace. As you move through the Palace compound, you will view buildings built in the year 1395 by great wooden architects.

Next, visit the National Folk Museum of Korea which is located on the palace compounds. A unique feature of this museum is its open-air exhibits, and you will be able to view over 98,000 artifacts to experience the history of the Korean people from their everyday lives during prehistoric times through the end of the Joseon Dynasty in 1910. The museum also explores how a strong Confucian belief system has given rise to many Korean customs today.

After spending 2 hours on the Palace grounds, your guide will then take you to Bukchon Hanok Village for an hour-long walking tour through Samcheongdong alley. This alley sits between the two palaces of the Joseon Dynasty, Gyeongbokgung Palace and Changdeokgung Palace. Unlike other Hanok (traditional Korean house) villages, Bukchon was not created for tourists and is a living village inhabited by Seoulites, comprised of about 900 Hanoks spread across the district. Here, you can visit inside traditional residential houses and learn about Korean lifestyles, both present and past.

After your time at Bukchon Hanok Village, your guide will take you to Anguk Station where your tour concludes.
